Terms of use
What Safiri is, how booking works, and who is responsible for what. By creating an account or making a booking you agree to these terms.

Draft. These terms are a draft prepared for review by a Kenyan advocate. They are not legal advice, and they may change once they have been reviewed.
What Safiri is
Safiri, run by Safiri, is a marketplace. It helps travellers find and book guides, drivers and hosts in Kenya. The guide, driver or host (a "provider") is an independent person or business. They are not our employee, and the service on the day is theirs, not ours.
What we check, and what we do not
Before a provider can be booked, we check the licences and certificates they give us with the body that issued them, and we track their renewal dates. That tells you the documents were genuine on the day we looked. It is not a promise about how someone will behave, drive or guide, and we cannot guarantee any particular trip.
Booking
- You send a request for a provider's service on a date. Nothing is agreed yet.
- The provider accepts or declines. If they do not answer in time, the request expires and you are not charged.
- Once accepted, the booking is confirmed on the price shown when you asked. A provider cannot raise it afterwards.
You must give accurate details, and be present and ready at the time and place agreed.
Prices, park fees and payment
The price of a service is set by the provider and shown before you ask. Park and attraction entry fees are set by the authority that runs the park, for example the Kenya Wildlife Service, and are usually paid at the gate. They change with the season and are not part of the provider's price unless the service says they are. We show what a service includes and what it does not.
Where a booking is paid through Safiri, payment is taken by M-Pesa or card through our payment partners. Where a provider and traveller agree to settle directly, Safiri is not responsible for that payment.
Cancelling
When you cancel a booking that has been paid for:
- Two days' notice or more: you are refunded in full.
- Between one and two days' notice: half is refunded and the rest goes to the provider.
- Less than a day's notice: nothing is refunded and the payment goes to the provider.
If a provider cancels, you are refunded in full. These are the defaults. If something genuinely out of anyone's control happens, such as an accident or illness, tell us and a person will look at it. Refunds go back to the way you paid and can take a few days to appear.
How to behave
Be honest and respectful, and keep conversations about bookings on Safiri. Do not harass anyone, give false information, post unlawful content, attempt to get around the platform to avoid paying for a booking made through it, or interfere with how the service works. Providers must keep their licences and insurance valid, and tell us when they change.
Photographs and content you add
Guides can upload photographs of places, and travellers can write reviews and ratings (travellers cannot upload photographs). You keep ownership of what you add, and you give us permission to show it on Safiri and in promoting it. You promise it is yours to share and does not break anyone's rights. We review photographs before they appear, and may remove anything that breaks these terms. A photograph you uploaded is deleted when you delete your account. A review you wrote stays, without your name. See the privacy page.
Taking an account away
You can close your account at any time (here is how). We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts anyone at risk, or where a provider's licences are no longer valid. If we do, we will tell you why unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
Our responsibility
We work to keep Safiri accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions. To the extent the law allows, Safiri is not responsible for the acts or omissions of providers, for loss or injury during a trip, or for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence. Travel carries risk, and we recommend you have your own travel and medical insurance.
Disagreements
If something goes wrong, contact us first: Use the Help option in the Safiri app, or the contact details on our Contact page. We would like to put it right. These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the Kenyan courts have jurisdiction over any dispute we cannot settle between us.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies, and a booking you have already made stays on the terms it was made under.
